Hybrids only greenwashing tool?

The Toyota Prius has been a bit hit, but hybrid cars are still not a mainstream technology until well after 2020.Purely about green hype?

John Humphrey, Senior Vice President of automotive operations j. Power, following a study on the "many consumers say they are concerned about the environment, but once they know how much the cost of the vehicle is intended to be a green, altruistic inclination drops significantly," concludes.

Thus, the JD Power-of-the-art hybrid and EV forecast predicts, only 7.3% of the hybrid and EV share by 2020. Of the people's Republic of China, the massive tax credits and significantly higher fuel-economy standards, however, may change the projected costs of at least to some extent.

But I would like to slam JD Power, I made the mistake in the past. Many years ago I mocked 2010 forecast for JD's hybrid.Unfortunately, they were on the spot.

Back then, of course, I have believed the status back to lithium-and hybrid-the revolution-the only thing was, by reason of the scale and manufacturing improvements. Today, however, revealed the main raw material prices is the main obstacle facing lithium technologies simply reduce the scale. [1] [2] lithium-batteries can be ridiculously expensive, only the costs of inefficient and terribly cost inefficient.

So how do we forward? is even worse, automakers really only using the case of hybrids and EVs greenwashing, balancing and tax incentive CAFE guzzling tools, ironically, to keep as long as possible?

Foreign oil dependence 2050!?
